Some statements regarding inflammation and
its role in chronic pain and illness by some
highly respected researchers and medical specialists
Inflammation is the underlying factor in virtually all diseases encountered in the twenty-first century. Steven Pratt, M.D., from SuperHealth
Chronic inflammation may be the root of all degenerative disease. Andrew Weil, M.D. www.drweil.com
Chronic inflammation falls below the threshold of perceived pain. You don't think you feel sick, but a fire is quietly smoldering within you, upsetting the delicate balance among all of the major systems: endocrine, central nervous, digestive, and cardiovascular/respiratory. In a healthy body, these systems communicate with each another. With chronic inflammation, that communication becomes distorted. Arizona Center for Advanced Medicine, Martha Grout, MD
Scientist at Tuffs University School of Medicine analyzed results of 34 separate studies that evaluated 2,219 people. They concluded that mind-body practices such as meditation, yoga, tai chi, Qigong effectively reduced inflammation. Health Briefs, Natural Awakenings, Feb 2015.
Over time, this low-grade inflammation interferes with the brain’s hormone signals, which is when the trouble really begins. Lacie Glover, FOX News, “What’s Inflammation? How to Reduce Your Disease Risk”, 2/25/15
A study of 49 adults supported by the NIH suggested that eight weeks of mindfulness training reduced stress-induced inflammation better than diet, exercise and music therapy. Lacie Glover, FOX News.
Sugar promotes high levels of insulin. And too much insulin is the number-one cause of our chronic disease epidemic and a major unrecognized factor in mood disorders and dementia. —Mark Hyman, M.D., The UltraMind Solution
The fact is, research proves heart failure is most often caused by nutrient deficiency, infection, inflammation or … prescription drugs. Dr. Bruce West, National Health Reporter Spring 2009
The purest antidote for stress is deep relaxation. Deep relaxation can be dramatically effective in relieving symptoms such as inflammation, anxiety, and muscle tension. It can be a life-saver when dealing with stress and life crises. Deep relaxation is completely normal and healthy, perhaps the most normal mind-body state we can experience. Emmett E. Miller, MD, Deep Healing
C-reactive protein is only a marker of the existence of inflammation in the blood vessels. But where there is inflammation, there is almost always also infection. Robert C. Atkins, M.D., from Dr. Atkins’s Age-Defying Diet Revolution
The two most common sources of inflammation in the twenty-first century are sugar (and refined carbohydrates) and hidden food allergens (perhaps most important, gluten.) —Mark Hyman, M.D., The UltraMind Solution
The study suggests exercise increases immune response and decreases inflammation. Excess weight is believed to increase the risk of cancer. Source: Breast Cancer Research, 2008
The biggest cause of inflammation in our culture is belly fat resulting from insulin resistance. Too much sugar promotes high insulin levels, which trigger a domino effect leading to system-wide damage, including inflammation. —Mark Hyman, M.D., The UltraMind Solution
The number one, best-tested natural “remedy of choice” to relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis is omega-3 fish oil. The oils work by manipulating the inflammatory process within cells. For example, tests show that fish oil suppresses the production of specific leukotrienes, agents that fire up inflammation. —Jean Carper, Miracle Cures
Steven Pratt, M.D., from SuperHealth, says that there are six steps to SuperHealth. 1. Control your genes through omega-3 fatty acids and Resveratrol. 2. Become an environmentalist and detoxify your body. 3. Watch you waistline—burn those calories. 4. Control inflammation. 5. Keep up appearances. 6. Preserve your senses.
A key paper in the journal of the American Medical Association, called “Neuroprotection in Parkinson Disease,” lays out the exact model we must address to protect ourselves not only from Parkinson’s but all types of brain damage. The basis concept goes like this—Environmental factors interact with susceptible genes to trigger this injury in the brain, and at each point of injury there are things we can do to stop or reverse the process. Free radicals from toxins lead to oxidative stress, which damages our mitochondria, the cells’ energy factory. This leads to overexcitation of cells and inflammation. Ultimately, all this results in cell death and the symptoms we see as mood disorders and behavior problems, as well as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. The authors of the study suggest that if we can use antioxidants, energy boosters, and anti-inflammatory treatments along with compounds that reduce the overexcitation (excitotoxicty) of brain cells, which lead to cell death, then we can protect the brain and prevent, stop, or reverse this process. These are exactly the same underlying factors that are the basis of the seven keys of UltraWellness, in which this program is founded. The astounding fact is that changes in brain function can be seen on PET scans decades before the “disease” of Parkinson’s occurs. “Premotor” symptoms such as depression, poor cognitive function, and poor sleep often occur years before doctors can make the diagnosis of Parkinson’s. —Mark Hyman, M.D., The UltraMind Solution
If the iris (of the eye) is inflamed, it’s a safe bet there is inflammation elsewhere in the body. Marc C. Rose, MD & Michael R. Rose, MD, from, Save Your Sight!
When the natural balance of your immune system (which produces just enough inflammation to keep infections, allergens, toxins, or other stressors under control) is disrupted, the immune system shifts into a chronic state of alarm spreading a smoldering fire of inflammation throughout the body. —Mark Hyman, M.D., The UltraMind Solution
Chronic, low-grade inflammation of the blood vessels may be the common link among all the big killers. William Joel Meggs, M.D., PhD, The inflammation Cure.
What do heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, Alzheimer’s, bowel disorders, and even obesity have in common? Inflammation. The body’s inflammatory response is a primary component of most chronic diseases. Acute, chronic internal inflammation can be linked to a wide range of health conditions and overall poor health. Terry Lemerond, from Better Nutrition, Issue five.
Merely interfering with the inflammatory response, as with NSAIDs or COX-2 inhibitors, carries too much risk of collateral damage, in the long run. Conventional medicine also falls short in effectively managing or even detecting a chronic inflammatory internal environment that has not yet manifest in acute symptoms of inflammation. Author and naturopathic physician, Lise Alschuler, ND.
Curcumin controls the over-expression of the inflammatory response without inhibiting it altogether. Curcumin can be considered an effective alternative to NSAIDs, COX-2 inhibitors and other anti-inflammatory drugs. Terry Lemerond, from Better Nutrition, Issue five.
One of the reasons Curcumin is such an effective anti-inflammatory is because it is also a potent antioxidant. This provides the body with the protection it needs while fighting inflammation. This most likely explains why Curcumin is not only effective, but also does not cause side effects. Terry Lemerond, from Better Nutrition, Issue five.
Inflammation damages cells and tissues by creating free radicals. Free radicals are generated as a result of inflammation and can also cause inflammation. Free radicals cause oxidative damage that has been directly linked to accelerated aging, as well as a variety of serious illnesses including the No. 1 and No. 2 killer diseases of our time; heart disease and cancer. Terry Lemerond, from Better Nutrition, Issue five.
Trans-fats come from processed foods, baked goods, most fried foods, margarine, and virtually any product that comes from a factory. They damage cells, increase inflammation, and interrupt normal brain function in everyone from children with ADHD to adults with depression or dementia. By eliminating trans fats and high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and other forms of sugar, these two foreign, man-made, mood- and mind-altering toxic substances from your diet, you radically transform your health overnight. —Mark Hyman, M.D., The UltraMind Solution
One antioxidant in particular, glutathione, which is produced by the body, is especially important for the health of the brain and nervous system. Coenzyme Q-10 is another antioxidant produced by the body that protects brain cells from free radicals and inflammation. Some of the most important brain antioxidants, such as vitamin E, are not produced by the body and must be obtained through supplements. The problem is that as we age, our antioxidant defense system loses some of its punch. We stop producing enough glutathione, Co-Q10, and other antioxidants to adequately protect the brain. David Perlmutter, MD, FACN from The Better Brain Book
The most effective way to alleviate pain and inflammation is to combine Curcumin with boswellia, another powerful anti-inflammatory Indian herb. This should also be combined with Phenylanine (DLPA) for its feel-good and anti-depressive effects and enhanced endorphin activity. Nattokinase is also important because it increases blood flow to the inflamed areas. Much research is based upon the formula EP612, containing these ingredients. Terry Lemerond, from Better Nutrition, Issue five.
If you ‘re undergoing surgery, we would like to strongly urge you to consider using systemic oral enzymes before and after in order to help stave off edema, inflammation, and excessive scarring and sclerosing of tissues, both internal and external. The clinical evidence that supports the use of systemic oral enzymes-Wobenzym N, in particular- is massive. Michael Loes, MD & David Steinman, MA, from The Aspirin Alternative.
The worst fats of all are trans-fatty acids, which are commonly found in many brands of margarine, processed baked goods, fried foods, and saturated fats, which are found in animal products (meat and full-fat dairy products like butter). These fats not only promote inflammation but prevent good fats from getting into your brain cells. Both trans-fatty acids and saturated fats can make your brain cells hard and rigid and interfere with the brain’s ability to process information quickly. David Perlmutter, MD, FACN from The Better Brain Book.
Enzymes can help you to markedly reduce important risk factors for heart disease and stroke, boost your immunity, and even prevent your reduce your risk of cancer. Enzymes can end the pain of difficult to treat arthritis, lupus and other auto-immune diseased, as well as prostatitis, sinusitis, herpes and even inflammation related tinnitus. Michael Loes, MD & David Steinman, MA from The Aspirin Alternative.
The natural way to overcome chronic pain, reduce inflammation and enhance the healing response; Systemic Oral Enzymes, from the cover of Michael Loes, MD & David Steinman, MA book, The Aspirin Alternative.
The way to find out the extent to which your body is undergoing significant inflammation is to perform what scientists call a C-reactive protein (CRP) analysis of the blood. Michael Loes, MD & David Steinman, MA from The Aspirin Alternative.
Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, MD, in his book, Anticancer: A New Way of Life, says, “We all carry cancer cell in us, even if only a few. But we also have natural defenses that usually prevent these cells from becoming an aggressive disease. These defenses include our immune system, the bodily functions that control inflammation and the foods that reduce the growth of blood vessels needed by tumors. Stress causes inflammation and weakens the immune system. Practices such as yoga, Qi Gong, and mindfulness meditation can transform our response to stress and strengthen our immune system.
There are many things that can cause inflammation, such as stress, pollution, cigarette smoke, and obesity, but diet is believed to be an instrumental factor. Specifically, high amounts of a type of fat in the diet called arachiconic acid. It’s found in animal products, specifically in corn-fed beef, and our body transforms this arachiconic acid into inflammatory chemicals that “spark” inflammation. Vitamin Shoppe ad in Healthy Awards. Jan 2009
Daily NSAID use can cut the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. He says that aspirin and other NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) work by reducing inflammation.
MSM offers major benefits for osterarthritis,… It reduces pain, inflammation, muscle spasms around joints, lessens formation of scar tissue, improves blood flow, and may slow degeneration of tissue. Stanley W. Jacob, MD & Ronald M Lawrence MD & Martin Zuker, The Miracle of MSM, The Natural solution for Pain.
In recent years, scientists have begun to recognize that misplaced, unnecessary, and prolonged inflammation may be a common root of many chronic, degenerative diseases that have until recently appeared to have nothing in common. Cardiologists agree that coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis begin as inflammatory process in the lining of the arteries. Alzheimer’s disease begins as inflammation in the brain. In all the autoimmune diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, the damage to tissues and organs is the result of inappropriate inflammation. Rheumatoid arthritis is more common in young people, but most of these inflammatory disorders become more prominent with age; in fact, they account for much of the age-related disease we would like to prevent. Andrew Weil MD, from Healthy Aging.
Inflammation is one of ageing’s biggest culprits. Eat onions, leeks, dark leafy greens, beans, nuts, seed, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon. The Anti-aging Solution, Natural Solutions, Sept 2011
Heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and many forms of arthritis, will all have one common link to our age old immunological defense mechanism: inflammation. Inflammation is the body's first defense against infection and trauma. Now scientists have finally connected the dots, giving researchers renewed hope that a remedy for inflammation could possibly prevent the many major diseases that they cause. Joseph Maroon, MD, The Longevity Factor, How Resveratrol and Red Wine Activate Genes for a Longer and Healthier Life.
Inflammation goes chronic when there is a persistent stimulus. The stimulus might come from an army of free radicals launched every day when we eat foods made with processed vegetable oils – French fries, fried food, non-fat dried milk, powdered coffee creamer, most salad dressings, crackers, cookies, chips, and a plethora of other processed and convenience foods. The stimulus might be an allergy to wheat (gluten) which inflames the gut. Or a low-grade, lingering infection. Or a growing body burden of heavy metals, pesticides, and chemicals. Or a low-grade, lingering infection from an old injury or from a root canal. There is a lot of opportunity in today's contaminated, junk food-filled world for a combination of factors to constantly irritate the body's normal functions. One of the biggest government lies, “The food you eat is safe”. Addison Wiggin, Daily Reckoning, 1/15/15
According to the Center for Disease Control, the number of hospitalizations related to food allergies has also increased 265% in the decade following the introduction of GMO food.
For years, polls have shown that about 93% of Americans support the labeling of foods that contain genetically modified organisms. But the biotech industry, with the help of the FDA, has decided that we don't need to know when there are potentially harmful ingredients in our food. So, GM foods are not required to carry identifying labels.
One way to (mostly) avoid GMOs is to eat organic. MarketWatch, 1/7/14
According to the American Medical Association, stress is the cause of more than 60% of all human illness!
Avoid foods that increase inflammation, such as red meat, eggs, sugar, coffee, alcohol, and high glycemic carbohydrates. Emphasize foods to decrease inflammation, such as cold-water fish, spices and herbs like turmeric (containing curcumin), rosemary, ginger, and hot peppers, green tea, low-glycemic carbohydrates such as whole grains and green vegetables. Ray Kurzwell, Fantastic Voyage.
Chronic low-great inflammation can smolder silently within your body for decades without causing any obvious or out toward problems. But all the while, it is eroding your health and taking years from your life. Taking steps to control silent inflammation gives you a powerful tool to combat several major degenerative diseases, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and cancer. Ray Kurzwell, Fantastic Voyage.
A wide array of health problems, including but not limited to, chronic pain, obesity, ADD/ADHA, peripheral neuropathy, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, migraines, thyroid issues, dental issues, and cancer are all rooted in inflammation, which must be properly addressed if you want to be healed. Dr. David M. Marquis, DC, DACBN, Diplomat American Clinical Board of Nutrition. www.mercola.com
Chronic inflammation, which underlies many of the common kinds of wear-and-tear damage, accumulates as we age. William Meller, M.D., Evolution Rx.
TIME MAGAZINE called inflammation..."the silent killer".
I's important to learn what's triggering inflammation earlier rather than later, before permanent damage is done. William Joel Meggs, MD, PhD, The Inflammation Cure.

Alkalize for joint health. Over-acidity is one of the major seven causes of inflammation. Many experts consider over-acidity one of the inflammation, especially arthritic conditions. The body can tolerate a small imbalance in blood pH and alkalizing the body can be important for arthritic (especially gout) sufferers. Jordan S. Rubin, NMD, PhD, from Patient Heal Thyself.

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis concluded that depression- past or present - raises men’s risk of heart disease more than genetics or environmental factors do. The higher risk may come from the inflammation that certain mental health problems can cause. Prediman K. Shah, M.D., Director of Cardiology at the Oppenheimer Atherosclerosis Research Center at Cedars- Sinai Medical Center.
Hawthorn has a very good safety profile. This means that people who are taking hawthorn to control their blood pressure or strengthen their heart will have tremendous protection against damage by stroke, should it occur. Hawthorn has been shown to lower blood pressure in a number of studies. In my experience, it is safer than most medications and strengthens the heart muscle while reducing inflammation. Russell L. Blaylock, MD, The Blaylock Wellness Report, April 2011.
Nanoparticles cause brain Inflammation. Recent studies found that damage in the brain from exposure to air pollution begins during childhood. MRI scans have shown lesions in the prefrontal cortex, the most complex thinking area of the brain, in children exposed to heavy pollution in cities. Russell L. Blaylock, MD, The Blaylock Wellness Report, March 2011.
One cause for sudden overproduction of inflammatory substances, which is rarely mentioned when cancer is discussed, is psychological stress. Some emotional states, especially persistent anger or despair, can provoke chronic secretion of noradrenaline (known as the flight or flight hormone) and of cortisol. These hormones prepare the body for a potential wound, in part by stimulating the inflammation factors needed to repair tissues. These hormones are fertilizer for cancerous tumors, latent or already established. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Through natural approaches available to everyone, we can act to reduce inflammation. It’s a matter of eliminating pro-inflammatory toxins from our environment, adopting an anticancer diet, seeking emotional balance, and satisfying our body’s need for physical exertion. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Richard Beliveau, PhD, a researcher in biochemistry and professor at the University of Montreal, runs one of the largest laboratories for molecular medicine in the world, produced the first list of foods that fight cancer. It included among other things, various kinds of cabbage, broccoli, garlic, soy, green tea, turmeric, raspberries, blueberries, and dark chocolate. All fats are to be eliminated except olive oil, canola oil or flaxseed oil so as to avoid inflammation-promoting omega-6s. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Every day, at every meal, we can choose foods that will defend our bodies against the invasion of cancer by; detoxifying carcinogenic substances; supporting our immune system; blocking the development of new vessel needed for tumor growth; preventing tumors from creating the inflammation that serves as their fertilizer; blocking the mechanisms that will enable them to invade neighboring tissues; and promoting the suicide of cancer cells. The fact that anticancer foods are able to detoxify bodies by eliminating many carcinogens is particularly important. Even if certain non-organic fruits and vegetables are contaminated by pesticides, the positive impact of anticancer molecules wins out over the negative effect of carcinogens. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Historical sources suggest that the rosary had been introduced in Europe by the crusaders who received it from the Arabs, who in turn adapted it from practices of Tibetan monks and yoga masters in India. In 2006, Julian Thayer and Ester Sternberg, researchers at Ohio State University and the National Institutes of Health, published, in the Annals of the New York Academy of Science, a review of all the studies concerning the amplitude and variations of biological rhythms. They concluded that everything that amplifies variation—as happens in the states of resonance or “coherence” (meditation) –is associated with a number of health benefits, e.i.; better functioning of the immune system; reduction of inflammation; and better regulation of blood sugar levels. These are, precisely, three of the principal factors that act against the development of cancer. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Smoldering inflammation seems to be the root cause of most cancers, even those tht have been linked to viruses and bacteria. Blaylock Wellness Report, Dr. Russell Blaylock, certified neurosurgeon.
Physical exercise modifies our hormonal balance. It reduces the excess estrogens and testosterone that stimulate the growth of cancers (in particular, cancers of the breast, prostate, ovary, uterus, and testicles). Exercise also reduces blood sugar levels and the secretion of insulation and IGF (Insulin Growth Factor), which contribute so dramatically to tissue inflammation and to the growth and spread of tumors. Physical exercise even acts directly on the cytokines responsible for inflammation by lowering their level in the blood. Finally, physical activity, like meditation, has a direct effect on the immune system, seemingly protecting it against the stress of bad news. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Harold Dvorak, MD, professor of pathology at Harvard Medical School, noted that one cancer in six is directly linked to a chronic inflammatory state. This is true of cervical cancer, which most commonly follows chronic infection of papillomavirus. It is true too for colon cancer, which very often is found in subjects suffering from a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestine. Cancer of the stomach is linked b the bacterium helicobacter pylori. Cancer of the liver is related to infection by hepatitis B or C; mesothelioma to inflammation caused by asbestos; lung cancer to bronchial infection caused by many toxic additives in cigarette smoke.
Oncologists at Glascow Hospital in Scotland have shown that patients with the lowest level of inflammation markers in their blood were twice as likely to live through several years. It is as if the body’s underlying state of inflammation were a major deterring factor of health. This is true even when the inflammation doesn’t seem serious and gives detectable signs such as joint pain or cardiovascular disease. Anticancer, A New Way of Life, David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
Supplementing with certain nutrients, including resveratrol, alpha lipoic acid, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) and naringin, seems to inhibit the biochemical pathways active not only in fat synthesis, but also in inflammation. Juvenon paper 6/2/11
Studies confirm that the eight essential biologically active sugars can accomplish amazing results. The following are just a few examples of the exciting possibilities of Glyconutrition: Dramatically raises natural killer cell and macrophage count against infectious organisms; Activates immune T-cell activity only when invaders or antigens are present, Decreases cell death in chronic fatigue syndrome,Dramatically elevates disease resistance in weakened individuals,Acts as antioxidant compounds, which boost the collection of dangerous free radicals,Protects the body against toxin and pollutant exposure,Slows premature aging, Decreases inflammation in diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, Helps immune cells recognize invaders due to a mutual ?sugar exchange? of information, Enables cellular components to stick to each other initiating the right reactions. Miracle Sugars by Rita Elkins M.H.
C-Reactive Protein is a measure of inflammation that your doctor can check with a simple blood test. Elevated inflammation is associated with a number of diseases and conditions and should prompt you to eliminate bad brain habits and get thin. Fat cells produce chemicals called cytokines that increase inflammation in your body. Daniel G. Amen, MD, The Amen Solution, The Secret to Being Thinner, Smarter, Happier.
Inflammation damages cells and tissues by creating free radicals. Free radicals are generated as a result of inflammation and can also cause (more) inflammation. Terry Lemerond, from Better Nutrition, Issue five.
Sugar is not your friend. Sugar increases inflammation in your brain and increases erratic brain-cell firing, and has been recently implicated in aggression. Daniel G. Amen, MD, The Amen Solution, The Secret to Being Thinner, Smarter, Happier.
MSM is truly one of the most important supplements and naturally occurring nutrients in the ozone soaked heavens. Nature has magically provided MSM to all us living beings on earth to keep us healthy and happy. MSM is so important in maintaining good health and flexibility in the tendons, muscles, ligaments, skin and nerves and serves so many other vital functions in the body. Just to name a few: 1- Oxygenates the blood so that red blood cells can deliver more oxygen and nutrient to the cells. 2- Improves lung cell and all cell permeability to increase lung capacity and increase oxygen intake to the body. 3- Helps neutralize allergenic reactions to pollen, different types of food, animals and fat allergies. 4- Increases bile-function and has a cleaning effect in the digestive track. 5- Protects against the harmful effects of toxins, radiation, and pollution. 6- Disinfects the blood, resists bacteria and protects the protoplasm of the cells. 7- Helps to normalize allergic reactions, stress, drug hypersensitivity, inflammation of mucous membranes, and inflammatory disorders including forms of arthritis, muscle cramps, and infectious parasites of all kinds. 8- Is excellent in maintaining flexibility in arteries, improving oxygen flow, and keeping arteries clean and clear of arterial plaque from forming. Keith Ranch, Planet Earth.
Scientists are only now (2004) beginning to grasp the devastating impact inflammation can have on the entire body. William Joel Meggs, MD, PhD, The Inflammation Cure.
Everyday foods, beverages, and spices contain healthful compounds that help us fight harmful inflammation. And, in doing that, these phytochemicals may also reduce our risk of diseases associated with chronic inflammation, including cancer and diabetes. Science Daily, 2009
How does Curcumin work against cancer? Independent research studies on the anti-cancer properties of turmeric suggests that Curcumin has the potential for treatment of five top cancers in the U.S. -- colon, breast, prostate, lung and skin. Numerous mechanisms have been described for the anticancer activity of Curcumin. Inhibition of proliferation of tumor cells, induction of apoptosis (a mode of cell death), inhibition of transformation of cells from normal to tumor, inhibition of invasion and metastasis and suppression of inflammation have been linked with the anticancer activity of Curcumin. Down-regulation of COX2, 5-LOX, adhesion molecules, inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, growth factor receptors, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transcription factors by Curcumin have been linked to its antitumor activity. www.tumeric-curcumin.com.
Curcumin is the ingredient that gives turmeric its distinctive yellow-orange color. It also relieves pain and inflammation. www.EmpowerHER.com
eHow.com has some practical suggestions to lessen your inflammation load. Plenty of sleep will do more than just rest your eyes since lack of sleep may cause a significant increase in inflammation. Avoiding sugar and simple carbohydrates can make a difference. Controlling blood sugar and insulin levels can help to control chronic inflammation. Become familiar with foods that are low on the glycemic scale. These dietary maneuvers can help to keep you at a healthy weight as well. Carrying extra fat also produces greater inflammation. Consider adding supplements that have anti-inflammatory properties to your diet. Fish oil contains omega-3 essential fatty acids which reduce inflammation. Vitamin E and turmeric can also aid in the battle against pain and inflammation.
Eating a diet made up of mostly fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, unsaturated fats like olive oil, whole grains, fish, and red wine while cutting down on red meat can boost heart health, lower inflammation, and help you live longer. The Anti-aging Solution, Natural Solutions, Sept 2011
The essential polyunsaturated fats (omega 3s) found in fish and flaxseeds have been shown to reduce inflammation, fight heart disease, and prevent age-related blindness. Take 2-4 grams of omega 3s with DHA and EPA daily. The Anti-aging Solution, Natural Solutions, Sept 2011
Tylenol is gentler on your stomach—but Tylenol contains acetaminophen, which does little or nothing to reduce inflammation. Aleve (also available as generic naproxen) or Advil (available as generic ibuprofen) is a better choice to lessen inflammation. Consumer Reports.
Inflammation, both acute and chronic, has been shown to inhibit the uptake of vitamin C, by the cells lining blood vessels, called endothelial cells. Russell L. Blaylock, M.D.,The Blaylock Wellness Report, March 2012

The most interesting findings to me were the effects of listening to music on inflammation. Inflammation is a hot topic in the field right now because of the overwhelming epidemiological evidence linking increased levels of inflammation to a wide range of chronic illnesses. Our lab is currently looking at the role of yoga and mindfulness meditation in reducing inflammation in breast cancer survivors since increased inflammation is predictive of cancer recurrence. Four studies in the review found that listening to music (drumming, relaxing music, music therapy) resulted in decreased levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-6, a commonly used marker of inflammation. Psychology in Action, The anti-inflammatory Effects of Music, by Alexandra, 4/13/14. (Psychology in Action is an organization formed by UCLA Psychology doctoral students. The combination of curcumin plus phosphatidylcholine is actually absorbed by the body 45 times better than curcumin alone. The phosphatidylcholine “escorts” the curcumin from your intestines into your bloodstream, and then into your body, to help reduce inflammation. (Contains 250 mg turmeric & phosphatidylcholine, 30 mg of HMR lignan, 320 Saw Palmetto, 60mg beta sistosterol and 200 mcg selenium) Ad for “Healthy Prostate, Dr. David Williams, 800 380-0795.
Recent research has revealed an unexpected mechanism underlying to health damage from excess weight. A study published in the Journal of Clinical investigation, reported that once obesity passes a critical threshold, the fat tissues become filled with enormous numbers of macrophages (immune system cells), which secrete inflammatory chemicals. The macro phages also secrete tumor necrosis factor-alpha, which initiates insulin resistance, a cause of the metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes. The chronic activation of this type of inflammatory response underlies many degenerative diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and type II diabetes. Ray Kurzwell, Fantastic Voyage.
1,000 mg daily of curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, proved to be just as effective at treating depression as fluoxetine, the antidepressant better known as Prozac. Phytotherapy Research, as reported in Prevention, Jan 2014. Curcumin inhibits the production of monoamine oxidase, an enzyme that at high levels is linked to depression. And it’s anti-inflammatory. It’s possible it may help alleviate short- term mood issues as well. Ajay Goel, PhD, Dir. of epigenetics and cancer prevention at Baylor University Medical Center. 1/14
Chronic inflammation is being recognized as the basis of most diseases. Russell L Blaylock, M.D., The Blaylock Wellnesss Report, January 2016.
Dipnarine Maharaj, M.D. (medical director, South Florida Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transport Institute, believes that increasing chronic inflammation as a consequence of aging causes decreasing function of stem cells, thereby impairing the function of bodily organs and tissues. Whole-body, chronic, inappropriate inflammation appears to result from eating processed food, getting insufficient exercise, and experiencing ongoing stress - all of which are common in the modern world. Scientists have long suspected that this kind of unfocused inflammation accelerates aging, leading to faster onset of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers, and ultimately to shortened lifespans. However, solid proof that high levels of inflammation and accelerated aging are linked has been elusive - until now. Andrew Weil, M.D., www.drweil.com
Curcumin stops inflammation and all its obvious and not-so-obvious damaging results. Jan McBarron, MD, ND, Curcumin, The 21st Century Cure.
Japanese researchers found that executives that took an hour long drumming class not only improved their moods, but also boosted their immunity and lowered inflammations. The Anti-aging Solution, Natural Solutions, Sept 2011
Curcumin is insoluble in water, making it very difficult for the body to absorb. It will, however, dissolve in some fats (extra-virgin olive oil, stearic acid, and phospholipids). Studies have shown that this increases the absorption by 11 times in plasma (the liquid component of blood in which cells are suspended) and fourfold in the brain. Mixing with oil also allows concentrations of curcumin to become high enough to reach the brain to provide protection against inflammation. The Blaylock Wellness Report, Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., August 2011.
Most disorders of the brain are the result of prolonged inflammation. Usually brain disorders result from low-grade smoldering inflammation. The inflammation can have many sources, including viral infections, inhaling exhaust fumes, toxic metals,(mercury, lead, cadmium, manganese, iron, copper), minor strokes, autoimmune diseases, food allergies, and brain injury. The Blaylock Wellness Report, Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., August 2011
The neurological disorder that develops with inflammation depends on the areas of the brain most affected. In Parkinson’s disease it is the mid brain (substantia nigra and striatum). In Alzheimer’s disease, it is the hippocampus, the frontal lobes, parietal lobes, and discrete areas of the brain stem that are most affected. The Blaylock Wellness Report, Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., August 2011.
Recent studies have shown that brain cells and astrocytes (star-shaped glial cells in the brain and spinal cord) contain a substance called NrF2, which has the job of protecting the cells from excessive inflammation and excitotoxicity. Animals deficient in NrF2 are highly susceptible to inflammation, pesticide toxicity, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer. Two common plant extracts powerfully increase NrF2 levels in cells—sulforaphane (an extract from cruciferous vegetables) and curcumin. NrF2 also protects the brain against excitotoxicity and inflammation (immunoexcitotoxicity), which is a central mechanism in a great number of neurological disorders including; Brain cancer, Brain infections, Autoimmune diseases, Brain trauma, Strokes, Behavioral disorders (depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia). NrF2 also protects the brain against toxic metals and pesticides and herbal toxicity. The Blaylock Wellness Report, Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., August 2011.
Recent studies have shown that magnesium stops inflammation by inhibiting calcium-triggered inflammation pathways in cells. Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., The Blaylock Wellness Report, June 2011.
The reason cancer takes so long to develop is that, in most cases, it results from chronic inflammation. Over many year, released free radicals damage the DNA, which results in activating cancer genes and cancer-promoting cell signaling processes. Studies have shown that in the vast majority of cancers, a smoldering chronic inflammation existed for as long as 17 years before the cancer developed. Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., The Blaylock Wellness Report, June 2011.
As your body becomes more inflamed with age, your risk increases for developing inflammation-related diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, cancer, neurodegeneration and strokes. Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., The Blaylock Wellness Report, June 2011.
Magnesium pays a major role in protecting all of the blood vessels in the body, especially the heart. A growing number of studies show that magnesium plays an important part in preventing heart failure, heart attacks, abnormal heart rhythms, and heart muscle degeneration. Convincing evidence suggests low magnesium triggers progressive inflammation of the heart, and even the infiltration of inflammatory white blood cells into the heart muscle. Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., The Blaylock Wellness Report, June 2011.
Inflammation of the heart muscle plays a major role in congestive heart failure, and reducing the inflammation dramatically improves heart function. This may explain why hawthorn is so effective in treating heart failure—because it reduces inflammation and excitotoxicity (immunoexcitoxicity), a condition in which nerve cells are damaged or killed by excessive stimulation by glutamate. Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., The Blaylock Wellness Report, June 2011.
It is known that when the brain is disturbed by anything—from infections to trauma, poisons, or stroke—it becomes inflamed. This inflammation is caused by activation of immune cells in the brain called microglia. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
The brain can be inflamed without the body being inflamed. However, an inflamed body can trigger brain inflammation and those who have elevated blood inflammatory markers, such as CRP, are at an even higher risk of dementia and age related memory loss. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease. depression and many types of cancer are linked to inflammation. William Joel Meggs, M.D., PhD, The Inflammation Cure.
This age-related rise in brain glutamate and inflammation also explains why depression, anxiety, panic attack, and suicide are more common among older people. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
With progressive aging, immunoexcitotoxicity continues, and other symptoms can arise as well: Extreme fatigue, Confusion, Difficulty swallowing, Loss of balance, Tremors, Muscle spasms, Aches and pains. Some of these symptoms come from inflammation and excitotoxicity within the body. .Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Normal aging is associated with a gradual increase in inflammation in the brain and a gradual increased sensitivity to excitotoxicity. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
The average person is eating foods harmful in vegetable cooking oils including; Corn oil, Safflower oil, Sunflower oil, Peanut oil, Soybean oil, Canola oil. All of these oils worsen brain and spinal cord injuries and increase the risk of Alzheimer’s. When you cook with these oils—even canola oil—they become oxidized, making them very caustic to the body. This is what causes inflammation. Exposing these oils to air causes them to oxidize. It is the oxidation of oils that is most strongly linked to atherosclerosis. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Blenderizing nutrient-dense vegetables and berries is also important. By doing this, you can absorb a higher percentage of the nutrient flavonoids from those foods. Simply eating vegetables allows only about 20 to 30 percent of the nutrients to be absorbed. Blenderizing raises that number to 80 to 90 (percent). By using “green juice” produced by blenderizing, you get a combination of vitamins, minerals, fiber and flavonoids, all of which reduce inflammation in the body, and many of which reduce excitotoxcity. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Quercetin is a powerful anti-inflammatory that inhibits NFkB activation, thereby suppressing inflammation and excitotoxicity. Absorption is increased by dissolving in extra-virgin olive oil. You can mix it with curcumin. The usual dose is 250 mg three times a day. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Resveratrol. Like the two anti-inflammatories curcumin and quercetin, acts on a number of inflammatory pathways in brain cells to reduce inflammation, shut off harmful microglial activation, and promote cell-protection mechanisms. The dose is 100 mg twice per day. Higher doses may have harmful effects. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Vitamin E has been shown to reduce inflammation and excitotoxicity—especially the form that has high-gamma-tocopherol component. Mixed tocopherol also protects the brain from immunoexcitotoxicity. They should be taken at different times, because they inhibit each other’s beneficial effects. The dose is 400 to 800 IU of the high gamma-tocopherol E and 100 mg of the tocotrienols per day. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Medium Chain triglycerides (MCT oil) is a special fat that the brain can metabolize like sugar, but without the producing inflammation or free radicals. It is an integral part of the Atkin’s diet, and may also be a major weapon against brain tumors and Alzheimer’s. But never take this oil on an empty stomach as it can cause cramping. Take it after eating the largest meal of the day. The dose is one teaspoonful twice daily. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Following an anti-inflammatory diet can help counteract the chronic inflammation that is a root cause of many serious diseases, including those that become more frequent as people age. Andrew Weil, M.D. — www.drweil.com
Omega-3 oils, such as DHA, have a number of beneficial anti-aging effects, including reducing inflammation, preventing heart arrhythmias, improving blood flow, and reducing oxidative stress. Russell L. Blaylock, MD., The Blaylock Wellness Report, 9/2011.
Two oils and a "hot" spice can reduce inflammation as effectively as drugs (vegetable oil, olive oil and the spice curcumin): An article from: Women's Health Letter by Hotta, Mariko, Rieko, Nakata Nakata and Michiko Katsukawa (Digital - Nov 23, 2010)
The fact is, research proves heart failure is most often caused by nutrient deficiency, infection, inflammation or … prescription drugs. Dr. Bruce West, National Health Reporter, Spring 2009
Unfortunately, you live in a pro-inflammatory world. Toxins such as lead and mercury pervade the environment. Processed foods are taking over the grocery store shelves, and you are probably on the go 24-7, which promotes stress and robs you of adequate sleep. All of these conditions have been shown to promote inflammation. Inflammation contributes to multiple chronic illnesses that are costly and corrode the quality of life. Inflammation is a hot topic in the field right now because of the overwhelming epidemiological evidence linking increased levels of inflammation to a wide range of chronic illnesses. .
According to the Center for Disease Control, the number of hospitalizations related to food allergies has also increased 265% in the decade following the introduction of GM food.

Chronic inflammation feeds a smorgasbord of chronic diseases. If you don't have a chronic disease yourself, you know someone who does. An estimated 80 percent of visits to doctor's offices are for issues relating to chronic disease. Arizona Center for Advanced Medicine, Martha Grout, MD
Every day on TV you can see professional athletes and others acting as spokespeople for Methotrexate, Orencia, Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, and other drugs which largely are designed to mask inflammation or suppress the immune response. None of these drugs actually have the capacity to correct the underlying condition and yet the imagery the ads leave the viewer with is that you will have your life back. Dr. David M. Marquis, DC, DACBN, Diplomat American Clinical Board of Nutrition. www.mercola.com
Mice with transplanted hearts listening to soothing classical music lived TWICE AS LONG as those that were deaf or listening to pop music. Mice exposed to opera fared best – they survived an average of 26 days, with those who listened to Mozart close behind at 20 days. Mice who listened to Enya survived for 11 days and the monotone group only seven days. Interestingly, mice that were deaf but were subjected to La Traviata did badly, as did mice exposed to pop music. So it really was a listening effect, not just vibrations.Alternative-Doctor.com, Keith Scott-Mumby MD, MB ChB, HMD,PhD, FRCP
Scientists have changed the gene sequence of some of the food we eat, making it a foreign object… So it shouldn’t be a surprise that our immune system might be reacting to this new kind of food, causing inflammation. Addison Wiggin, Daily Reckoning, 1/15/15

Exercise trumps medicine for heart health and pre-diabetes. Doctors reporting in the journal BMJ concluded that exercise is as effective as drugs at treating heart disease and pre-diabetes –and more effective in treating people who had a stroke. Exercise works by reducing inflammation, improving arterial health and lowering blood sugar. Fitness for Women, Feb 2014.
Researchers are linking inflammation to an ever-wider array of chronic illnesses, reported Newsweek, Anne Underwood in 2005.
Chronic inflammation is also known as silent inflammation and it can activate potentially harmful genes as well the aging process for example is not to invoke certain aging genes being turned on and other useful genes being turned off. So the cornerstone of the Longevity Program is minimizing silent inflammation. Ray Kurzwell, Fantastic Voyage.

The most powerful concept in disease prevention and treatment today is inflammation. William Joel Meggs, MD, The Inflammation Cure.
AND MORE EVERY DAY!!!
Some notes on us...
DISCLOSURE: Be aware of the dangers when you get involved with the pharmacologically oriented medical profession! Just because that is the route officially sanctioned by the government doesn't mean that it is any safer than other therapies. In fact, it is fraught with great dangers! Be Aware that hundreds of thousands of people die in hospitals every year because of some kind of medical error or mistake. And unbelievably large numbers of people just like you die each year because of prescription drugs even when they are "properly" prescribed and taken as directed!
Recognize that almost every modern advanced “civilized” city (and probably, country too) would quickly collapse financially if a simple and cheap or free cure and/or preventative were generally acknowledged and accepted for chronic illness and chronic pain (cancer, cardio-vascular illnesses, arthritis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer, ALS, and many more). Understand that our laws are designed to protect our government’s sources of tax revenue derived from the “food” manufacturers & the huge pharmaceutical cartels and to protect the established medical industry, (which is largely funded and educated by those same cartels), and only to protect you when it is convenient or guarantees votes.
We hereby advise you of what we are required to say; that we are reporters and facilitators of the use of the latest scientific information, which has been proven to have profound impact on the individual’s health, and that this material and information can and is made available to you most probably only because...
we are not certified medical professionals of any type!
So we are required to advise you to seek profession medical help for any problems you might have before proceeding further because your government is protecting you.
We ask you to trust us...but verify the applicability of this program, considering your unique and particular health situation.
OUR THOUGHTS ON THE 21ST CENTURY AND BEYOND-
It is our opinion that there are three simple yet profound ideas that will dominate effective healing and wellness efforts in the 21st century. They will survive in spite of a huge medical/drug/government complex spending a fortune and making an effort to marginalize the power of these concepts. That is because each is tremendously effective in getting measurable positive results and each is dirt cheap and so far… none is illegal and none can be patented. And it is becoming readily acknowledged that the present “drug, cut & burn” methodology doesn’t work very well.
The 1st and most important is that to be really healthy and thrive, you must accept full responsibility for, and actively manage, your health yourself. This is because of the conflicts and problems created by ineptness of government managed medical care which is destined to get even more difficult for the patient, and the problems caused by the huge pharmaceutical complex that controls medical care and the education obtained by doctors at even the most prestigious medical schools and teaching hospitals, and by problems caused by medical professional whose livelihood and life style depend on keeping you alive, but sick. “Medicine is no longer seen as a human service being carried out by dedicated professionals. It is a multibillion dollar “industry” with ownership freely traded on Wall Street, along with stocks for oil wells, steel production, and computers”. Emmett E. Miller, MD, Deep Healing.
The 2nd is the general recognition and acceptance that almost all chronic illness and pain is a direct result of elevated chronic inflammation levels in the body. Not DNA, not virus or bacteria, not lack of some expensive new drug, or the lack of some fancy surgery … but inflammation!
And the 3rd is the recognition that this chronic inflammation can be reduced/controlled by the individual simply, easily and without expensive drugs, doctors, or the “medical establishment”. There are two different paths to that reduction/control. The first is simply the careful control of what goes into the mouth and control of environmental toxin exposure and the second is by effectively reprogramming the mind/body to more properly handle modern chronic type stresses without inappropriately contributing to increased inflammation.
Spending the time studying and using this program may well be the most important thing you ever do for yourself. It will indeed help you become a happier, healthier, and a better you. There is no way you could better spend your time. I personally assure you of that..
Gandhi said, “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world as in being able to remake ourselves”. This program is a great step toward being able to remake yourself to be a better you and to thrive in a modern, hectic, chaotic, stressful, and potentially harmful, environment.
“Every stress leaves an indelible scar, and the organism pays for its survival after a stressful situation by becoming a little older.” Hans Selye (1907-1982)
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said, way back before we could measure things and scientifically prove his ideas and theories, “Change your thoughts and you change your world”. We now know, because of the latest proven scientific research, that if you change your thoughts, you do change your physical reality.
And in the words of that famous philosopher and master of human nature, Mae West, “Everything’s in the mind. That’s where it all begins.” And we agree and firmly believe, that’s where everything is, all the time, right up through the end!
